What you should know before you engage a virtual presenter

On screen presenters use a different skill set than being on stage. There are similarities, but there are some factors you need to consider. There are some challenges inherent to virtual presenting like not being able to see what’s working or not, not enjoying instant feedback from your audience, and not being able to draw on your skills used in on-stage engagement.
Some typical challenges involved in making the conversion from on-stage to on-screen are that:

  • Find it hard to adjust to audience feedback, chat, or questions
  • Keep focused on the camera vs. the screen
  • Challenged to create engagement with their audience without the face-to-face touch
  • Challenged in presenting while seated, instead of walking around
  • Different energy levels on-screen vs. on-stage (often lower)
  • Not comfortable with close-up video
  • Typical gestures and body language don’t translate well to on-screen

Bob has been engaged in on-screen events across the globe with professional organizations, just like yours. In fact, he was an earlier pioneer with the Business Link, an Alberta based entrepreneur service/training organization doing programs into 27 locations across Alberta and Saskatchewan. He developed a training program to assist their trainers leverage on-stage combined with on-screen to enhance their reach. He can assist you and your team.

With the current panic concerning Coronavirus, make sure you check to see if your presenter is equipped to do the job, a great job, on-screen. Don’t assume they can make the conversion.

If you’d like to schedule a zoom call to discuss how I can assist you during this, hopefully, short lived crisis email me at bhooey@mcsnet.ca
